Interdisciplinary Learning


This domain has the two dimensions of Listening Viewing and Responding, and Presenting. These skills are developed across all curriculum areas, from English to the Arts and all other areas, in a variety of settings from small group to whole school assembly, using a variety of media, from spoken presentation to audio-visual and print. Communicating clearly and effectively is increasingly being recognized as critical to success in all spheres of life, and teaching these skills in all curriculum areas reflects this overall importance.


Design, Creativity and Technology

This domain is largely concerned with the skills and knowledge required to be able to move successfully through the process of designing producing and evaluating the success and effectiveness of products or systems in response to ideas or needs. Its end product is innovation but the process of going from problem or need or idea to successful conclusion is as important as the conclusion itself.

Work in this domain will be most relevant and successful in the context of units of work situated mainly within other domains, eg Science, The Arts, Humanities, etc.


Information and Communications Technology [ICT]

ICT is the hardware and software that enables data to be digitally processed, stored and communicated. The learning in this domain is organized into the dimensions of;

  • ICT for visualizing thinking
  • ICT for creating
  • ICT for communicating.

The learning in this domain emphasizes not only knowing how to use the tools of ICT [computers and programs, cameras, etc] but how to use them thoughtfully and purposefully in accessing, organizing, creating and communicating information. These skills have applications in all learning areas.

At Annunciation the tools of ICT include laptops for teachers and desktop computers in all classrooms with peripherals such as headphones, scanners and printers, all linked by a school-wide wireless network. They also include digital cameras ans video camera, data projectors and screens. We regularly upgrade and add to our range of ICT equipment.


Thinking Processes

“Our world and the world of the future demand that all students are supported to become effective and skilful thinkers.” [VELS Introduction statement in ‘Thinking Processes’ section].

The skills of being able to think logically, critically, creatively and reflectively are important in all areas of learning. While the skills and tools need to be taught specifically, it will be in the context of other learning, in all areas, from English to Religious Education to the Arts that they will be most effectively used.
